Truck fails to stop

A 52-year-old female remains in hospital after her vehicle collided with a B-double truck carrying chipboard on Wednesday morning.

Hamilton police Sergeant Rex Habel said a male truck driver was travelling on Thompson Road at Tarrington at 7.10am when he failed to stop at the intersection of Hamilton-Chatsworth Road at 7.10am.

He said a small Honda passenger vehicle travelling west on Hamilton-Chatsworth Road collided into the side of the truck.

"The trailer separated from the prime mover and tipped onto its side, completely blocking the road for a number of hours," Sergeant Habel said.

"There were road closures until the afternoon. A crane was brought in to remove the trailer and a fork lift was used to lift the laminated chipboard out of the trailer.

"The small vehicle was extensively damaged and towed from the scene."

The 52-year-old female driver of the Honda suffered a fractured vertebrae and was taken to Hamilton Hospital.

The 31-year-old truck driver suffered no injuries and was not taken to hospital.

Sergeant Habel said no charges had been laid but investigations were ongoing
