Hamilton and Heywood

Two .22 calibre rifles were stolen in the early hours of last Friday morning from a vehicle parked in a driveway at Gray Street in Hamilton.

The vehicle had been left unlocked overnight and is being treated as a crime of opportunity by a would-be thief.

Police have put out a stern warning that anyone found in possession of the two guns are set to face serious charges.

There's now a hunt for the firearms and police have stated they will be pulling all stops to recover the stolen items.

They are requesting that anyone with information should immediately contact the Hamilton police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A 30-year-old Heywood man has been charged and bailed after police found a fully developed hydroponics set up for cannabis on Sunday.

The accused was arrested during the weekend in relation to another incident where he caused criminal damage.

Following the initial arrest Heywood Police executed a search warrant at his home address just after midday finding eight fully grown plants.

The cannabis had a street value of $16,000.

Interviewed and charged with a range of drug-related offences the man was bailed to appear in the Portland Magistrates Court at a later date.
