A Hamilton man, who was previously convicted for having a sexual relationship with a minor 15 years ago, will spend at least seven years behind bars, found guilty of multiple sexual abuse charges against children under the age of 16.
Steven Whennen, 36, has been remanded in custody for 511 days, following the historic abuse across a two year period.
He yesterday appeared at the Warrnambool Magistrates Court for his sentencing, charged with three counts of sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16.
The repeat offender pleaded guilty to the charges and was jailed for 10 years, with a non-parole period of seven years.
One victim was abused on multiple occasions across various locations in Hamilton.
Another was coaxed to a caravan near the town’s popular skate park.
The historical charges from 2003, where Whennen was convicted and ordered to complete 200 hours community work, were raised in court.
Prompting Magistrate Gerard Mullaly to question the original sentencing.
