Two people flown to Melbourne

Two rescue helicopters were called to the scene of an accident near Port Fairy Sunday morning.

Police say the accident happened at 10.45 on the Port Fairy/Hamilton Road when the car lost control and hit a tree.

Two people aged in their 70s had to be cut from the car and flown in separate air ambulances to hospital in Melbourne.

It took a number of hours to cut the pair from the car.

Ambulance Victoria's John Mullen says the man and a woman received multiple injuries including leg injuries.

He says they were treated at the scene and were flown to Melbourne both in serious but stable conditions.
