A Hamilton man aged 21 has been caught drink driving in the early hours of Sunday morning more than four times over the legal limit.
Seen leaving a Hamilton venue, police intercepted the P-Plate driver in Goldsmith St at about 2.45am.
Failing a preliminary breath test the driver was taken to the Hamilton Police Station for a secondary test recording a blood alcohol reading of .210.
The man's licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and his car was impounded.
He will now receive a summons to appear at the Hamilton Magistrates Court at a later date.
Police have stated they will step up their patrols late at night especially in the holiday period.
