Hamilton and Portland residents are urged to keep safe this holiday period.

Hamilton's Highway Patrol Sergeant Darren Smart said residents should be careful driving and enjoy time with your family.

“We’d just like all drivers to be careful on the roads as they’re travelling to and from. For Christmas and new years. Enjoy your time away with your family. Don’t make Christmas and New Years a time where your family have to have bad memories of you because you’ve been involved in some trauma on the roads.”
