Receives $8.4 million in funding
After many years of campaigning for a much-needed redevelopment, Hamilton’s only public secondary school, Baimbridge College, will finally have the upgrades delivered.
Member For Western Victoria Jaala Pulford was at the school today to make the announcement on behalf of the State Government.
Labor has promised $8.4 million for the first stage of the school’s redevelopment, which will include the construction of the new administration, resources and food technology building.
The Andrews Labor government claims this will only be delivered if its party is re-elected in November.
Ms Pulford shared the news with the school’s students and staff this morning.
“Baimbridge College is a great local school and only Labor will make sure our kids and their teachers have the state of the art classrooms and facilities they need to achieve their best,” she said.
“We’ve funded planning and design work, and heard from locals about how important this major upgrade is … only Labor will deliver it, with $8.4 million for the first stage of works.”
Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy, has held a strong stance for years on the importance of the Baimbridge upgrades, continuously asking Labor to “get it done”, while also starting a petition.
Happy to finally see a commitment being made by the opposition, Ms Kealy re-iterated that the Liberals and Nationals would also make the announced commitment if elected .
“Hamilton’s Baimbridge College school community has finally been rewarded for their tireless campaign to hold the Andrews Labor Government to account for a funding commitment made more than a year ago, but never delivered,” Ms Kealy said.
“Baimbridge College has been mucked around for far too long by Labor, with absolute silence on this project for the past six months.
“Disgracefully, it appears Labor have deliberately stalled so they could re-announce it in the lead up to the election.
“I assure the school community and the people of Hamilton that should The Nationals be elected to
government in November, we’ll deliver this vital redevelopment for the students at Baimbridge College.
“The only public secondary school in the Hamilton district, it’s vital this investment is made.”
